Terrorism Solutions

Although the wide terrorism problem is not likely to be solved, there are many terrorism solutions that are effective in reducing the risk of further attacks. Since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, many changes and improvements have taken place to increase security, both on the national and local levels.

Different organizations, with help from terrorism consultants, have been able to develop terrorism solutions. Many agencies that are charged with fighting terrorism have reviewed the way they operate and share intelligence. This change has opened the communication between these agencies and has reduced the chances of another attack happening due to lack of communication.

Domestic Solutions

Many domestic terrorism solutions have been enacted since the attacks of 9/11. The formation of Homeland Security and other agencies is one change. Before the attacks, federal law enforcement agencies did not share intelligence information with each other. The Homeland Security agency was created to help alleviate that problem. By sharing intelligence with one another, federal agencies are better able to assess risks and establish greater security measures.

Increased security at airports, bus terminals, and other public areas is another solution recently implemented. Screening at airports has greatly reduced the risk of potential terrorists smuggling weapons on board airplanes. The airplanes have now been equipped with re-enforced cockpit doors. These doors are locked from the inside, only to be opened by the pilot. The addition of armed US Marshals that accompany many flights have also been a deterrent. These undercover officers help increase the security of the plane by being able to handle potential threats that may come up mid-flight.

Tougher immigration laws have been enacted to increase security from foreign terrorists. By closely regulating who we let into the country, the government is able to reduce the risk of terrorists entering the country in attempts to do harm. Some of the terrorists involved in the September 11 attacks were in this country illegally. Profiling a certain nationality and/or religious belief has also been a helpful solution in reducing risk of attacks.

Understanding Terrorism

It is believed that in order to develop a solution to terrorism, education in the differences of races, religions, and beliefs needs to take place. Terrorism typically happens due to an intolerance of a different world view. Most terrorists turn to terrorism because they feel their beliefs are the only right way to believe. By teaching tolerance, some world leaders hope to be able to reduce the terroristic activity.

Domestic terrorists have tended to spring up due to differing opinion from the government. By being more aware of extremist political and religious groups, terrorism task forces can identify potential problems before they turn into terrorism.

Psychological profiling of terrorists is another useful tool in prevention of terrorism. By understand the motivating factors and personality types that are at risk, authorities are able to be pre-emptive in weeding out terrorist suspects. Also, terrorist groups tend to stick to a pattern when planning their attacks. This pattern can be used in identifying responsibility for an attack and possibly preventing another one like it. Agencies also need to remain informed of new trends and patterns that may develop.

Although terrorism is likely to be a problem for years to come, there are many viable solutions that are being developed on a daily basis. These terrorism solutions are helping make the world a safer place.
